Happy Birthday, David!

Steve and Patty drove to Denver for the weekend to help celebrate David's birthday. We spent a day skiing at Winter Park and had a great time! Here are the highlights from the weekend...

Why I'm riding the bus...

For Lent this year I've decided to start taking the bus to school! It started to bother me that when I'm at Metro Carering I pass out bus tokens to every client but had never taken the bus myself. SO, yesterday morning I took the bus for the first time! David helped me find the right bus stop and I left my house at 7:45 to be at Iliff by 9:00. It cost $1.75 each way and I had to transfer buses but it was a good learning experience. Having a car is a privilege I take for granted. Relying on public transportation adds HOURS of travel to the daily lives of people in poverty...trying to get to work, to the grocery store, to a doctor's appointment, etc. A commute that takes me 20 minutes by car took me an hour by bus! I know in other major cities public transportation is part of life, but here in Denver it definitely seems like a class issue...

I found out today that I wasn't selected for any of the internships I applied for. I applied for Children's Defense Fund and Sojourners, two organizations I really admire, so I was sad not to be chosen. The good news... I can spend my summer in Denver with David! He's relieved not to be alone with the puppies for 8 weeks! =)

We FINALLY spent the Christmas money from David's grandma and got new bedding for our bed. It's hard to believe, but the bedding we got for our wedding was already falling apart! Anyway, I promised Elsie I would post some pictures so she could see what we bought with our Christmas money. =)
